A WOMAN who set up her own business after becoming unemployed is searching for "crafty" people to help her venture grow.

Wendy Bourgeois, who found herself out of work after a decade as an administrator, set up the Old & Crafty shop at the bottom of Albert Road, late last year.

The business sells her own handmade gifts as well as items made by many other crafters from Plymouth and the surrounding area.

But despite 16 crafters already on her books, Ms Bourgeois is looking for more to showcase their talents to her customers.

She was helped in her entrepreneurial quest by Working Links and Outset Plymouth, which together work to deliver the Enterprise Coaching scheme on behalf of the European Regional Development Fund and Plymouth City Council.

Working Links is helping Ms Bourgeois find new suppliers.

She said: "I opened the shop a few months ago and it's doing well. We've got lots of different items on sale like baby clothes, soft toys, bags, jewellery and novelty gifts but I think there's a lot more that we could sell.

"I know from the people who come in the shop, whether it be locals or tourists, that they'd like to see more ladies' clothes, men's clothes, more novelty items and even fudge – and I'm sure there are plenty of talented people around Plymouth who would like to sell their items here."

Ms Bourgeois, who also runs knitting and crochet workshops, added: "The support (from Working Links) has been great. If I needed help, they've always been there to lend a hand."
