The accident happened at the junction of Manadon roundabout and Mannamead Road.
French, wearing a denim skirt and cream cardigan, spoke only to confirm her name during the short hearing, attended by members of both families sitting in the public gallery.
Judge Paul Darlow told them he hoped they appreciated this was purely a procedural hearing.
He set a date of October 22 for French to offer a plea and pencilled in February 4 next year as the provisional start date for a three-day trial.
French was granted continued unconditional bail.
