Woman racially abused in row over parking space in Plymouth
A CHILEAN mother was subjected to torrent of foul racist abuse after she was accused to taking a motorists’ parking space.
Police are now hunting the couple who launched the abuse after the woman, who is in her 40s, drove her car into a parking space on level one of the Drake Circus mall car park at around 11.30am on February 22.
The woman, who has been in the UK since the late 1980s raising a family, parked her car but as she switched her engine off was startled to find a woman hammering on her window.
The woman was swearing at the Chilean mother saying she had taken her parking space and demanding she move.
Police said the mother insisted she had not seen anyone waiting and was not going to move.
The aggressive woman then walked off but when the victim got out of her car she saw her again standing nearby, with a man sitting in the driver’s seat of a car.
The woman resumed her torrent of abuse, demanding again the Chilean woman move, despite the victim pointing out several other nearby spaces.
The victim said the man then made a gesture with his fist and shouted. The aggressive woman followed up the man’s comments with ones of her own.
The female suspect was described as white, in her 40s, slim with short blonde hair. She wore a bright pink or fuchsia three-quarter length jacket and was around 5ft 4ins tall.
The man was also white, between 5ft 5ins and 5ft 6ins tall and of stocky build. He had a mohican-style haircut, but it was not spiked.

“JTPlymouth yours is an opinion I can respect, having grown up here I know the under the counter, behind the hand racist attitudes to people from other nations a lot of plymouthians have deny it all they want.
And im sure a few people do play the race card when it shouldnt be a factor....however to make out as a lot are here that every race crime incident is the victim using there race to there advantage is just disgusting and to then turn it around and also claim that because of this we are actully experiencing racism towards whites is just moronic.”

“I occupy the middle ground on this. Plymouth most certainly is backwards. I don't think racism is more rife than other, more civilised cities. But I think it is more tolerated by ordinary, otherwise decent onlookers whereas in other cities, people are more inclined to take a stand.
I think in making people realise the seriosness of racism and the distress it causes, the Herald is probably doing something educational for parochial Plymouth.
Here's the middle-ground bit. I think it is conceivable, as with any minority group that a very small number will have a chip on their shoulder and will attribute every misfortune that befalls them to their ethnicity.
In this particular case, we just don't know. In any case, it sounds like an unpleasant confrontation so I wish the victim well.”
