Woolworths turns into Wilkinson
AFTER remaining empty for six months the old Woolworths store in Barnstaple is set to re-open.
The Green Lanes Shopping Centre unit has been taken over by Wilkinson, a family-run chain store, which has more than 300 outlets across Britain.

It sells a range of products including homeware, garden goods and pet care products both in leading brands and its own range.
Wilkinson has stores in Taunton, Bridgwater, Plymouth and Torquay but this is its first appearance in North Devon.
The Woolworths store finally closed in January this year after the retailer went into administration.
More than 60 staff lost their jobs as the shutters were pulled down for the last time.
The news that the site will be occupied once again by a retailer offering similar merchandise is likely to be welcomed by shoppers.
The Wilkinson empire started in 1930 when its first store opened in Leicester.
Wilkinson, often called Wilko by customers and staff, now aims to have more than 500 shops by 2012.

“Any idea who's going into the Taunton Woolwoths? My guess is Tesco although lots of people have said TKMaxx, they have been ripping it apart for ages and it's all very secret, Tesco would be great, but ruffle a lot of feathers.”

“Brilliant news! Wilkinson is a good retailer and this store will fill much of the gap left by the closure of Woolworth's.”
