Work begins on Plymouth's Derriford Hospital multi-storey car park
WORK has begun at Derriford Hospital to prepare for construction of a multi-storey car park set to open in 2014.
Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs Derriford, announced that work to create the car park of more than 600 spaces, which began at the end of January, should be finished by the summer of 2014.
While the hospital will remain fully operational throughout construction, car park E will be closed.
New pedestrian and traffic routes as well as temporary parking options will be implemented throughout the construction of the car park.

Patients and visitors can no longer park in the lower E car park, near maternity, or in the upper overflow E parking area.
Temporary public spaces will be provided on the old Sheepstor House site and other car parks in the vicinity. Patients will need to enter the site via the mini-roundabout off Derriford road and take the first right currently signposted Rowans and Staff and Health and Wellbeing.
The new patient car park entrance will be signposted and there will be a pay and display machine.
The only pedestrian access to staff and patient parking in E will be via the main pavement next to the bus lane that exists on the site. All other access to and from E will be securely fenced off.
Vinci will manage the new multistorey car park along with the other car parks at Derriford Hospital and the car parking tariff will be the same across the whole site, the trust said.
