A WORKSHOP is being held next week to encourage nurses to retrain as health visitors.

Plymouth Community Healthcare, the social enterprise which provides some NHS services, is seeking registered nurses or pre-qualification student nurses to attend the event on Thursday morning at the Royal Western Yacht Club.

Health visitors are qualified nurses or midwives who have completed specialist training to work with children, mainly aged under five, and families. They have a crucial role in the community, identifying health and developmental needs of children, and supporting families through key stages of their children's development.

Denise Edgecombe, clinical education lead for health visiting and school nursing at Plymouth Community Healthcare said: "The health visiting service is expanding to include more early intervention in the first year of life, and working with communities to help them work towards reducing health inequalities.
