YELVERTON Under-11s stretched their incredible winning run to 28 matches and secured back-to-back league and cup doubles with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Plympton.

The young moorland side have not lost a competitive cricket match since 2009 and showed why against their Plympton counterparts at Oak Park on Sunday.

Yelverton U11s A team, the Hurricanes, had already won their West Devon Youth league for a second successive season and included a sprinkling of their B side – the Mosquitoes – for the end of season showpiece with Plympton at Cornwood CC's ground.

But the change of line-up did not weaken the all-conquering moorlanders, who bowled out plucky Plympton for 61 with one over to spare.

In reply, Yelverton amassed 62 for the loss of just two wickets.

Yelverton U11s, managed by John Casey and coached by former first-teamer Paul Farnham, had Plympton in early trouble.

Bowlers Jon Hawley (3 for 4), James Casey (3-21) and Ben Dunlop (3-15) did the damage with the ball putting Yelverton in the box seat when it came to their turn to bat.

Plympton's top scorer was Devon U13 player Olivia Jones, who scored a valuable and valiant 11 runs.

In reply Yelverton were no less impressive, Dan Farnham and man-of-the-match Hawley (9), who had accounted for the Plympton tail-enders, put 38 on the board for the first wicket as Yelverton cruised to victory.

Hawley (18) carried his bat as Yelverton knocked off the remaining runs with seven overs to spare.

Dominic Allen was Plympton's most successful bowler taking two for 16.

Coach Farnham said the boys' success in the past two years was 'terrific and a credit to them all'.

Despite losing some of their players as they naturally move up into a different age category this year, Farnham said the 2012 Yelverton U11s will be just as strong.
