VANDALS smashed the windscreen of an ambulance while paramedics treated a young woman in a city bar.

Police confirm they are investigating the incident which took place outside Cuba bar in North Hill at around 3.10am on Sunday.

The ambulance was called to the scene to treat a young woman who had been injured after a bottle was thrown in the premises.

While paramedics treated the woman for a cut to her head in a back room a bottled was reportedly lobbed at the windscreen of their ambulance.

A spokesman for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust said the vehicle was put out of action for repairs and another vehicle had to be called out to replace it.

The spokesman said: "I find it hard to understand why anyone would smash the windscreen of an ambulance, particularly with paramedics treating a patient inside.

"I would like to thank the crew for their professionalism throughout this incident and make an assurance that South Western Ambulance Trust will fully support the police in bringing charges against those responsible."

Police are currently studying CCTV footage from the location and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Anyone with information about the incident should call police on 08452 777444 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 quoting police log number 204 of 6/12/09.

“Trouble is peddling drink makes profits for the breweries, raises taxes and employs bar staff, fast food vendors and taxi drivers.

The consequence of relying on boozing as a money spinner is rubbish like this, and the objectionable behaviour in our hospitals and inflicted on staff there.”

“so the ambulance had its windscreen smashed thousands of pounds worth of damage has been done to plymouths taxis over the past year & as usual the police can't be bothered or the cps will not prosecute even when there are several reliable witnesses thats`why the cab drivers have no faith in the police but because this is a government vehicle they are doing everything to catch the offender shame you dont do that all the time & prosecute them when you catch which you dont”

“If the paramedics were armed, possibly with shotguns, they could defend themselves and drum up new business at the same time. What could possibly go wrong?”

“The lowlifes who do things like this obviously havent got a braincell between them. Problem is they do stuff like this knowing they will get away with it. Also anyone who attends A & E because they have picked up an injury to to drinking too much and they turn violent and/or abusive should be ejected by security staff and refused treatment.”

“Check CCT....appealing for witnesses...heavey stuff there! But all completely futile really since even when caught and dragged into the court system it will all go soft as soon as the judge requests the infamous 'pre sentence reports'. This is where said thug throws in that he has a heroin problem / anorexia / abused childhood / etc etc and hey preston...Mr Softie Judge will say 'Oh oh.....well, you were NEARLY about to be sent to jail but you've narrowly escaped it today and I bid you farewell!' It's a merry go round of b!*llocks and quite honestly, I don't know how the police cope, they work with hands tied behind their backs.”

Because they've only got one brain cell mate.
Remember that real-life paramedic TV show where they were treating a young girl knocked down in the street on a sink estate up north? A crowd of locals gathered and began hassling the paramedics even though they were tending one of their own! The medics had to request police backup!
Obviously the thickos resent any "authority figures" whether they be medics, firemen, the police etc”

“My wife had to go to A.&E on friday night with her seriously 89 year old mother,They arrived at 7.30 p.m.and my mother in law was hospitalised after investigations. My wife left the hospital at 12.30 a.m.She said it had been a very frightening experience.
There was Police and Security on duty inside A.&E never the less this didn't stop noisy aggressive drunks from frightening the genuinely sick and injured. From what my wife said it was utter chaos, and the poor frontline staff just have to put up with it.Surely these idiots causing the chaos should be arrested, and sevely punished, but that unfortunately is a pipe dream.”

“I think that the same consideration should be given to all our emergency services as is the Police. If you assault a Police Officer or damage a Police car they more or less throw you in jail and chuck away the key.
Let these yobs who damaged the ambulance and scared the hell out of the Paramedics do hard time ... about 20 years should do it!”

“Quote - "Police are currently studying CCTV footage from the location and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward." How often have we heard that? Where were our over rated Police Service (no longer a force to be reckoned with)? I know that they cannot be everywhere at once but, let's face it, they are usually no where at all! North Hill, Sherwell Arcade and Tavistock Place are known trouble spots. The whole of Greenbank, could be considered a problem area either due to University of Plymouth Students misbehaving or being targetted by other yobs. I bet our Neighbourhood Police Team won't come up with any answers either!”
