STUNNED shoppers were taken by surprise when a 70-strong gang of zumba fans burst into a dance routine in the city centre.

The daring dancers from Virgin Active health club, formerly the Devonshire, gathered at the sundial on Saturday afternoon.

And they spontaneously started strutting their stuff before a surprised crowd.

They got such a great response from the public that the flash mob did it all over again outside Tesco Express.

But there was method in their madness.

The zumba fanatics were raising money for Comic Relief.

And they raked in an impressive £130 with two bucket collections during eight-minute dances.

The gang made sure they weren't missed by donning bright red t-shirts and Comic Relief gear.

Hannah Marks, one of the membership consultants who spearheaded the stunt, said: "Everyone was really nervous to start with because we just didn't know how many people would come along, but we got a good turnout.

"It's the first time we have done anything like that but we'll definitely do it again.

"Some of the dancers were wearing red noses while they danced.

"We had about 70 people taking part and that was a mixture of staff, members and local people.

"Lots of people stopped to watch. It's something unexpected and a bit different."
