Take action on parking problems
I FEEL I must write in support of recent correspondents complaining of parking problems in their residential areas.
Plympton is becoming progressively worse now people have two or more cars and refuse, for one reason or another, to use their garages and driveways.
This is causing immense headaches for bus drivers and other residents who are facing sometimes massive congestion, even when trying to access their own homes.
There are those who unreasonably park inconsiderately and think they have the right to a certain place out on the road.

The police are complacent and say it is not their duty but the council's and vice versa, so it is an ever increasing circle which needs to be sorted, promptly.
I see Mr B J Connell making good use of his spare time!
He has become an avid letter writer and, strangely enough, I agree with all he now says!

“Regretfully this Car dominated society only gets worse. I reside in a small Cul de sac of SIX Houses, guess what 21 Cars...2 Motorcyles...2 Vans, which are in and out 24/7 operating a Call Out Service for IIndian Takeaways. OF the 21 Cars at least half are driven by under 25 year olds with empty Silencers that want to drive in and out of the Cul de sac many times a day up to 2/3 am. Poor Society or what!!!. Wish I could move. Unable due to domestic situations.”

“My area is used as a car park for those who won't pay parking charges in town and also by staff at the edf offices in Outland Road. My road is filled with cars by 8am daily.”

“I couldnt agree more with this article. Crossways Plympton is horrendous. Why not get rid of the grass verges, which are muddy now anyway, and create parking. And yes force people to clear their garages driveways if they have them & park their vehicles there. When Im pushing the pushchair I have to walk in the road around cars parked half on the pavement. Its an accident waiting to happen. Also badly parked cars near to junctions again in the Crossways area it forces you onto the other side of road then suddenly a vehicle comes around the corner & your head on. The junctions im talking about are Crossways/Borringdon Hill & Crossways/Longmeadow it is so dangerous.”

“Ivybridge is the same. Drivers now seem to think that they can park on pavements and problem solved without thinking of pedestrians especially people with prams, wheelchairs and the disabled etc who are forced to walk in the road. These drivers are totally thick brainless individuals who should get tickets. Park street at the bottom there are cars parked all over the place causing serious obstructions. If the Fire or Ambulance services were called to Waterside ( a sheltered housing complex for the elderly/ disabled), they would not get through. Disgraceful, but unfortunately you can't educate pork.”

“too right, action needs to be taken about parking on bus lanes and cycle lanes. I rode up Billacombe Road and Elburton Road yesterday and there is cars all parked on the cycle lane. Should they be parked there no, but no one gives a hoot even though cycle lanes must cost PCC a massive bit of their budget. What is the point of putting a cycle lane up Billacombe road if idiot car drivers all park in it.
And all the idiots who park by the golden hind. I would not park there if I had half a brain. Its a bus lane for buses ! why don't PCC get the cameras out and fine them, all of them!”

“first of all parking is now the councils job as it was decriminalised ,second if people use there hardstands it wont improve parking as you can not park cross the hardstand exit, the council need to get a grip on parking outside schools ,on cycle lanes ,in bus lanes like the one between the golden hind to sungates”

“It is a sad fact of modern life that there are too many cars on the roads, often three or four to a household. Many of them are unnecessary though their owners would not admit to that and as a lot of areas which were built before this became a problem have no room for them and so there has to be some sort of restriction on who can park and where. It does seem draconian but until the number of cars is drastically reduced by people getting rid of a car they really could manage without it will be the only means.”

“its just as bad in stonehouse
We pay £30 a year for a permit to park in the resident bays outside our houses (3 bays that hold maybe 10 cars each) but as per usual during the week the bays are used as car parks by staff working in millfields. they are only allowe dto park for a maximum of 2 hours but ive seen and witnessed parking attendants telling them to move thier car to the next bay in order to prevent recieving a ticket (thats when parking attendants do bother turning up and thats not very often).
Most of us residents believe there is something going on between millfields and Pcc parking as its the same cars every day from 8:30 am till 4pm and yet none of them have ever recieved a ticket from what we can tell and i work from home so i see a lack of attendants every day. The worse park is being spoken to buy non residents like we are **** on the bottom of thier shoe and told feck off we pay rd tax. TOUGH I PAY RESIDENT PARKING FEES, If the council can not be bothered to patrol the area propperly then they should either give us free permits or remove the restrictions all together. Another excuse for PCC to line thier pockets and get away with it. Its about time something was done about it”
