A FANTASTIC 33 specimen-rated fish, representing 14 different species came to the scales following heat seven of the Shore League.

With three rounds left, Brixham have taken the lead in Division One with 193 points against Roving Rods A who have 187.

Rodbenders produced super form to beat Roving Rods 29-25 in a high scoring semi-final of The Herald Knockout Cup.

John Joblin contributed a grey mullet of 5lb 2oz, and Mark Bryce a small-eyed ray of 10lb 12oz. Steve Fedrick had a whiting of 1lb 11oz, and Scott Hood a bull huss of 10lb 15oz plus a wrasse of 4lb 12oz.

Roving Rods' total was assisted by a Pollack of 3lb 10oz by Gary Andrews and a small-eyed ray of 9lb 4oz from Rob Yorke.

Stonehouse defeated Plymouth SAC by virtue of a better percentage that came into play after they had tied 21-21. The final will be fished within heat eight over the weekend November 22/23.

Heat seven's best specimen was a pouting of 2lb 8oz by Ashley Cockram of Brixham worth 184.09 per cent. Ray Hartley of Naval Stores brought in a fine bull huss of 13lb 12oz 10 drams that scored 153.11 per cent.

Andy Copping again made the long and hazardous descent to his infamous blonde ray mark and it produced another fine specimen of 14lb 1oz and he also had a pouting of exactly 2lb and a plaice of 2lb 4oz eight drams.

Cockram also moved into flatfish country for a flounder of 2lb 6oz eight drams and Roy Repton backed up with an excellent grey mullet of 5lb 1oz. Roving Rods have a big task ahead to overcome this very strong team.

Members of the Plymouth Specimen Angling Group had a very successful trip aboard the East Devon-based charter boat Blue Lady.

The target species was Black Bream at a reef less than three miles off Beer. More than 50 were shared by Colin Davies, Keith Steward, Mike Duckett and Dave Murray.

In a quirk that is not unknown, the fifth member of the party Tony Vallack, a very experienced all rounder, failed to catch a single one.

Davies, who was using scallop frills for bait, had no less than 20 to weights up to 2lb 12oz. It was discovered that the bream had been feeding heavily on brittle stars.

Pete Dunne of Plymouth SAC had an encounter of an unusual kind while coming up the long path just after midnight from the rocks at Start Point.

Laden with a heavy backpack and carrying rods and a gaff he was suddenly sent crashing to the ground with considerable force, suffering a variety of cuts and bruises in the process.

The frightening experience was caused by a bullock that had escaped from a nearby field that disappeared into the night. This adds to the story of the Brixham anglers who came face to face with a big puma as they descended the rocks at Scabbacombe Head.
