Taken at a South Devon mark his fish weighed a staggering 26 lbs 1 oz against the current 24 lbs 8 ozs established in 2003.
This latest specimen is likely to be judged the top fish of 2008 a year that will be remembered for the remarkable level of shore fishing achievement with this species.
Other fine catches have been made by Plymouth based anglers at estuary marks. Mark Ash of Roving Rods SAC took a superb flounder of 3 lbs 14 ozs from the Teignmouth side of the Teign estuary, which rates by far the biggest specimen in the last four years from this once famous flounder river.
He had two more of good size during the session and hopefully, this is a pointer to a satisfactory result in the National Flounder Championship being fished over the weekend of Saturday 22nd/Sunday 23rd November.
Organised by Teignmouth Sea Angling Society it is the 12th in the series and the prize list is more than £3,000 in cash and tackle. The overall best specimen will win £1,000 and the cash Day Prizes are each worth £250.
Juniors have their own list the best fish on either day winning £300 worth of tackle and gear to the value of £150 are Day Prizes. To enter contact Kevin Tapper 01626 833101.
Clive's September Rover was won by Shane Barton with his 50 lb 2 oz conger, Mark Ash was runner up with his fine flounder and the third best, was a conger of 35 lbs 5 ½ ozs by James Langdon and just after the event closed Barton had another fine specimen of 36 lbs.
Joe Biddlecombe who has the opportunity to fish from the dockyard wall took a bass of 8 lbs and a fish of 10 lbs 2 ozs was taken at the Eddystone by Terry Woodcock and fish in the 6 lbs class have been taken on the beaches of East Devon.
The Wyvern Division's 'Fish of the Month' awards have been won by high scoring fish with the shore category being totally dominated by blonde ray.
Darryl Farley of Brixham SAC topped with a magnificent specimen of 23 lbs 8 ozs (235%). Fellow angler Andy Copping was runner up with a fish of 19 lbs 2 ozs (191.2%) and third place went to Plymouth Rodbenders clubman Rob Wheaton who took a specimen of 17 lbs 14 ozs (178.7%).

Torbay area juniors topped both shore and boat categories.
Wyvern's Annual General Meeting is tonight (12th November) at the Royal British Legion Club, Legion Way. Alphington. Exeter. A major topic will be the NFSA's submergence into the Anglers Trust Ltd that takes over control of British recreational angling on January 1st.
