Not the answer
JACK JENKINS (May 16) doesn't seem to find anything wrong with the siting of the incinerator in the middle of St Budeaux and Devonport, and is seemingly quite happy with "minimal" emissions.
He lives in Mainstone, no surprises there then. Would he still have the same point of view if the site was just a few hundred metres from his house?
In my opinion, minimal emissions are still too much; the only safe level is zero emissions, and that doesn't even take in the effect of all those lorries.
In years to come it will be too late to say 'Oops we got it wrong', because by then the damage will have been done and many people will have paid a price for what I regard as this folly.

Landfill is not the answer to dealing with future waste, nor is an incinerator in the middle of a highly populated area.

“First the good news for residents near the incinerator- The chimney will be so high that the gas and smoke will almost certainly sail harmlessly over your heads before coming down to earth some miles away at Plympton or wherever, depending on wind speed and direction.
The bad news is that endless convoys of heavy garbage trucks will be crossing the city to and from the thing, including those clogging up the A38 bringing Torbay's rubbish.
PS- In that respect, can't the Plymouth Police lodge an objection against the building of the incinerator on road safety grounds?”

“I agree 100% with J Hammond it is a betrayal of all the people in St Budeaux and Weston Mill by that damn Tory Council thank god they have been removed.
every councillor was emailed to ask them especially the ones on the planning committee to do their own research and to ask the American State Dept on Health why the Banned this type of incinerator in 1979-1989 from being built nd used in populated areas, answr due to serious concerns on Health Grounds, not one of those Elected Councilliors did their own research into the health impications for future generations especially the particles we will all breath in, even our Government when it suits it has real concerns over those particales as does the World Health Organisation, Oh well its a poor area lts kill them a few years earlier seems to bethe Tory Parties decision, the preferred option and ites were rnesettle and Coypool NorthYard was never ever on the short list nor were MVV so for Mrs Pengelly to hold a secret meeting refusing Elected representatives in, shows that this decision was not only flawed but Illegal, they didn't follow their own proceedures I repeat North Yard was NEVER on the lst of preferred Sites and MVV were also NEVER on the list of bidders to build it, so the decision is null and void Tudor Evans needs to release into the public domain all papers regarding that meeting when Mrs Pengelly in SECRET decided she and her councillors would poison the people of this City.”

“=the only safe level is zero emissions=
Zero emissions of what? I presume with a statement like that you don't have a gas boiler or a car?”
