Fox Gallagher won't show any sentiment

Saturday, November 21, 2009, 07:00

FORMER Argyle loanee Paul Gallagher said there will be no room for sentiment when Leicester City host the Pilgrims at the Walkers Stadium today.

The Scottish international spent last season at Home Park on loan from Blackburn Rovers and ended the campaign as Argyle's top scorer with 13 goals.

However, a £1 million summer move to Leicester means Gallagher will face his old team-mates this afternoon.

"I was at Plymouth for all of last season and scored a fair amount of goals," said Gallagher. "I still have a lot of friends down at Plymouth and a lot of respect for their staff. But when Saturday comes and you cross that white line, everything is out of the window.

"Hopefully I can manage to score a goal. It does not usually happen though, scoring against your old team."

Since his move to the Walkers Stadium in the summer, Gallagher has struggled to hold down a regular place in Leicester's starting line-up.

He has scored two goals in 12 Championship appearances for the Foxes. But of those 12 appearances, only eight have been starts – the last of which came in a 1-0 win at Reading on October 26.

However, Argyle manager Paul Sturrock is in no doubts about just how good a player Gallagher is.

"He is a quality player and a great finisher who has great natural talent," said Sturrock. "I wouldn't put it past Leicester to maybe think about playing him against us because it could bring an extra edge to him.

"Gal was fantastic for us last season. One of the main reasons why we stayed up was his goals and are we ever thankful to him for them.

"Playing him wide left and I think he could be a really top drawer player in that position.

"But I think he has set his heart on being a striker or playing just off a striker. He is a talented player."
