Voice of cricket recalls his innings

Tuesday, November 18, 2008, 16:32

BROADCASTER Henry Blofeld talking about himself – howzat for a night out?

The popular cricket commentator and journalist takes time off from his regular slot on Radio 4's Test Match Special to talk us through his own innings at Tavistock Wharf on Sunday, November 30.

The Life and Loves of Henry Blofeld is billed as two hours of uncomplicated fun, which takes a sideways look at what life has pitched at him.

Blowers' love affair with cricket began at Eton, for whom he played for three years.

He went straight to King's College, Cambridge, for two years, before he was shown the door in 1959.

By this time he had acquired 'probably the worst cricket Blue since the Crimean War' – although he managed to hit a first-class hundred against MCC at Lord's.

After three abortive years in the City of London, he began writing about cricket for The Times and has been a journalist ever since.

The modern world we endure comes in for a fair amount of stick as well, all told with Blowers' beaming smile.
