I back the bid but where was petition?
I WHOLEHEARTEDLY support the bid for Plymouth to be the City of Culture in 2017. It would be amazing if we were to win.
My only regret is that the money, time, energy and enthusiasm hasn't been used by Plymouth City Council on reopening the airport.
I can't remember 38,000 people signing a petition to say that they wanted to be the City of Culture.

“"The Council would be mad to subsidise the airport when there is little hope of it ever becoming financially viable."
It never ceases to amaze me how some people think they know this for a 'fact' when, perhaps unsurprisingly, entirely the opposite is true. It was viable, it still is today, and this is documented in black and white by reports the council commissioned. Fact.”

“The Council would be mad to subsidise the airport when there is little hope of it ever becoming financially viable.
Similarly, the organisers of the Jazz Festival were warned that it would have to become self-financing eventually. If traders benefitted financially, why don't they put their hands in their pockets and keep it going?
Efforts to get Plymouth as the City of Culture will bring benefits to the city for years to come, look at what Plymouth and its environs have to offer, not perfect, perhaps, but be positive, look to the future and back the bid!”
