No blame game
ONCE again Mr Fred Brimacombe has expounded his political views through Your Say, after the tragic death of a senior citizen on Royal Parade.
I feel it is presumptuous of Mr Brimacombe. I feel it is for others to decide if this crossing is safe for the public or not, however I object that the tragic death of this lady is seemingly being used as a political football. My thoughts are with her family. Mr Brimacombe had previously expressed his opinion that Area Committees should be scrapped, as the turnout in St Budeaux was so low. Yet he also stated that when issues affecting the public come up, the attendance is higher: 60 odd for parking issues and more than 100 for the incinerator meeting. These meetings are the chance for local residents to check what is going on locally and to be able to face their elected representatives and ask questions. Mr Brimacombe suggested it would be better for residents to phone their councillors. In my view, what this suggestion does is stifle debate for the public, when instead we need more involvement if we want to increase the turnout in the local elections. I am disappointed Mr Brimacombe has seemingly jumped on the bandwagon regarding the Royal Parade crossing. In my opinion, it is wrong that this tragic death is being used in a blame game
