Twists and turns keep season alive in Saturday ties

Sorting out Division One was relatively easy with CSBC clinching the title after gaining the two wins they needed from last weekend's double-header.
They beat Plymstock 143-113 on the Saturday and last year's champions North Down 143-104 on the Sunday. New Plymouth finished as runners-up.
At the other end of the table, Beacon Down, seemingly down and out two weeks ago, recovered with two victories against North Down 136-112 and then 125-118 at Plymstock.
This meant the City Bus fixture at home to already relegated Torpoint was crucial. City Bus had to win but the team who had reached two County Cup quarter-finals this term, lost 133-126 which left them in a relegation position.
Today they play their last game against CSBC in a local derby at Milehouse. The only other game of note in the top division last weekend was North Down's 130-104 win over Sir Francis Drake (A).
In Division Two, the Police, as expected, clinched the title and will be playing in the top tier next season for the first time in 24 years.
It is doubtful whether Saltash will be happy, however, after doing so well in getting themselves out of the relegation places in previous weeks.
Saltash, at home to Plympton, who were also in a spot of bother, would have been expected to win and end their season on a high. But the latter won 122-118 to leapfrog their hosts.
Saltash thought they had a fall back position as second-bottom Dean Cross were playing champions Police.
Things did not quite work out that way as Dean Cross brought off the result of their season by winning 125-106, escaping relegation by one point.
Saltash have now been relegated twice in two years and are in Division Three next term.
Ivybridge will be promoted with the Police and once again it is another success story as they also have waited a little while for a return to the top.
They were helped in no uncertain way by Dean Cross beating Mount Gold by one shot last weekend – it was so near but so far for Mount Gold who will now finish third.
Devonport Park are champions of the Third Division and did it in some style by thrashing the only team that perhaps could have caught them.
They beat Tothill 154-97 with the rink of Graham Maule impressing up 45-23.
Who will go up with them is still not certain – Peverell Park are slight favourites, but they will have to beat Tothill today at Central Park to clinch that second spot.
However, they will have to do better than last week when they crashed to Sir Francis Drake (B) 140-124 with the rink of Sam Brown 47-24 up doing most to spoil the Peverell party.
Drake know that if results go their way they could yet be promoted, while two wins for Tothill will see them up. But there could still be a few twists left in this most unpredictable season.
