New website for enterprising young people in Plymouth

Friday, November 21, 2008, 07:44

ENTERPRISING young people in Plymouth have been given access to a new website in a bid to help them turn their future career and business ideas into reality.

The www.plymouthyoungchamber.co.uk website has been sponsored and created for the Plymouth Young Chamber by digital marketing agency Numo Group.

The website, which was developed in under two weeks, went live to coincide with Plymouth Enterprise Week, which ran throughout last week.

Sponsored by Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, the Plymouth Young Chamber aims to create an awareness of opportunities available for 14 to 19-year-olds in the workplace and provide them with a voice in Plymouth's future development as the 'enterprise capital of the South West'.

Steve Tomkinson, director at Numo Group, said: "We are delighted to be able to support the Plymouth Young Chamber with the development of a website that will provide young people with useful information on finding work placements, help and tips on getting the job they want and how to turn bright ideas into business opportunities.

"The site, at this stage, is a straightforward information portal and will provide a centre point for communication for the group's launch in December.

"The site has gone live in time for Enterprise Week, which aims to inspire people to have ideas and make them happen.

"Where better to start than with the young people of Plymouth – who will be our future workforce and entrepreneurs."

Beth Clayton, chairman of the Plymouth Young Chamber and studying event management at the University of Plymouth, said: "Basically, we want to show young people what experiences and opportunities are available in Plymouth.

"We are planning a business visit programme and a regular newsletter to all our members.

"As well as the support of Numo Group and James Tanner, to date we have signed up the support of The Duke of Cornwall Hotel, The Una Group, City College Plymouth, The Millfields Trust and The Copthorne Hotel.

"I'm hoping many more businesses will come on board and actively engage with the young people in Plymouth who are serious about their future careers."

Plymouth Young Chamber has already signed up a high profile ambassador – restaurateur and celebrity chef, James Tanner. Thirty-three-year-old entrepreneur James knows the reality of succeeding in the restaurant trade and setting up a business.
