Police said the A38 westbound remained closed until almost 5pm, and traffic was forced to use the old A38 as a diversion.

Police said one person was taken to Torbay district hospital for check-up, but there was no indication that he was seriously injured. There were no other injuries.

The Ford Focus is registered to a Plymouth owner.
