A Godfather of modern cinema
Monday, November 03, 2008, 15:15
Some of the finest films by Oscar-winning director Francis Ford Coppola are on show on successive Wednesdays.
Starting with Coppola's mob drama The Godfather on Wednesday , the series will continue with the taut thriller The Conversation on November 12 and his epic Vietnam War drama, Apocalypse Now: Redux the following week.
The series will end on Wednesday, November 26, with a screening of Coppola's philosophical 2007 film, Youth Without Youth, in which he deliberately moved away from mainstream Hollywood film-making to explore issues such as the passage of time and memory.
The series has been organised by Peninsula Arts, the cultural umbrella organisation for the University of Plymouth, in association with the Guerilla Cinema Project, and is supported through the RIFE Investment Fund through the UK Film Council and South West Screen.
The films will be shown in the Jill Craigie Cinema, in the Roland Levinsky Building, starting at 6.30pm. Tickets cost £5, or £3 for over-60s. Tickets are free for Friends Plus and University of Plymouth students and staff.
