Your chance to learn about city's history

Thursday, November 13, 2008, 14:52

PLYMOUTH families will have the opportunity to explore 800 years of city history at a special open day held by Plymouth and West Devon Record Office (PWDRO).

The event will use documents and other materials from its archives to show how Plymouth has developed from a small town to the bustling city of today.

Learning officer Jo Gardner said: "Plymouth has a remarkable past and we'll be covering a range of aspects during the day to demonstrate just how fascinating it is.

"We'll be looking at famous Plymothians, the city's rise from the ashes of the Blitz, and its links with the abolition of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. It's a great opportunity for families to get a snapshot of over 800 years of the city's history."

There will be separate sessions run on Saturday, November 22 from 10am to 11.30am, 11.30 to 1pm and 2pm to 3.30pm.

Admission is free, but advance booking is essential by telephoning 01752 305940, or by emailing pwdro@plymouth.gov.uk
