THE former boss of a lettings agency will not face trial for fraud after she paid back £10,000 she used for home improvements, a court heard.

Melanie Cairns, an ex-director of R House, has handed back the cash to the firm's administrators, Plymouth Crown Court heard. Cairns, aged 52, had denied fraud between August 2007 and May 2010. Judge Graham Cottle ordered the case lie on file.

Cairns, of Antony Road, Torpoint, thanked the judge and left the dock smiling. Andrew Maitland, prosecuting, told the court Cairns had been told last month the case would not go to trial if she repaid the money.

Keith Ranson, a fellow former director of R House, has admitted the same charge and is due to be sentenced. The court heard that as a result of his fraud, insurance companies had lost around £300,000.
