Wednesday, November 19, 2008, 15:34

A WHITLEIGH man who repeatedly stole meat products from a local Co-op store has been given a suspended prison sentence by Plymouth magistrates.

Stephen Kearney, aged 36, pleaded guilty to four charges of shoplifting £182.24 worth of products from the Co-op at Crownhill in June and August this year. Kearney, of Taunton Avenue, was caught on CCTV.

A probation officer's report on Kearney said he had a heroin addiction and would benefit from a drug rehabilitation order.

Kearney was given an 18-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, an 18-month supervision order with a six-month drug rehabilitation requirement and was ordered to pay £182.24 compensation to the Co-op.
