Man spat at officer after taking mobile
Wednesday, November 19, 2008, 07:00
Scott Rumbold, 33, admitted to the theft and to assaulting a police officer on October 17, when he appeared before Plymouth magistrates.
The woman noticed her mobile was missing and pointed Rumbold out to a police officer.
The officer found the phone down the front of Rumbold's boxer shorts, and he spat at the policeman as he arrested him.
Magistrates heard Rumbold had been a chronic alcoholic but three days after this offence he had gone into Broadreach for intensive detoxification.
He was now on a 12 week post-detox course and had made a change in his lifestyle.
District Judge Paul Farmer deferred sentence until March 24 next year with the interim requirement for Rumbold, of Budshead Road, to attend programmes and meetings to keep him alcohol free.
