“And yet another SHH article in the Herald today where we are not allowed to comment on.”

“Yes, I noticed that. What's going on, Herald? Please explain to your readers why they are unable to comment on any story involving Sutton Harbour Holdings. It's about time we had some transparency!”

“I simply posed the question "How is it SHH have £75 million to spend on the marina when they can't locate the several million they got from the sale of airport land that was supposed to be spent on extending the runway and renovating the terminal?"
A perfectly valid and reasonable question that does not overtly accuse SHH of anything.
Then all the comments were deleted.
    Actions speak louder than words.”

“The money from the sale of the airport land was used to cover ongoing and previous loses that SHG accrued, ie running costs.”

“That was their explanation. Regardless of it's veracity, now that they have £75 million, why can they not use that money to reinvest in the airport?”

“Whilst the plans look very good, SHH should not be allowed to go ahead with these plans untill they surrender the lease for the Airport land.

I'm sure SHH want to be remembered as good citizens as opposed to the tarnished image they may get unless the Airport saga is satisfactorily resolved.”

“Precisely, if they are not prepared to run the transport service they aquired it should be free for others to provide that service.

If this were the case with say, Plymouth City Bus, another private yet heavily subsidised transport service, there would be uproar. City Bus could not terminate their contract while preventing any other company from aquiring their routes, so why have SHH been allowed to do so?

This is not a hotel, or a restaurant, or a shopping centre. This is infrastructure and they should have an abligation to provide it.”

“I agree with others, I could see nothing libelous - just facts. It is a fact that there are serious questions surrounding Sutton Harbour Holding's finances as well as their actions and dealings regarding the airport. It is a fact that they had to resort to a share offering to repay debt and raise money for the Millbay Marina project. Therefore when the same company announces a £75m project, it is logical to ask 'where is the money coming from' - or is this just a nice plan to make them out as a force for good in Plymouth?”

“Matt they don't have 72million. They get planning permission and then sell individual bits of the project onto other companies. The 72 million is how much it would cost to build it all, not how much SHH will be personally spending.”

“Plymouth needs more iconic architecture and needs to promote the iconic city centre it already has. I don't think many people realise that it's up there with the likes of Brasilia in terms of modernist design and urban planning - this is an untapped and predominately affluent tourist market in itself.

timplymouth, I can see what you are saying, but that would undermine their own portfolio and core business, which they are supposed to be returning to.”

    “Yes...

The Herald have just refused an article which slates the authorities and others concerning the debacle that is called Gdynia Way.

Freedom of the press doesn't apply to Plymouth's only recognised newspaper it seems.

Large local businesses, councillors and whoever pulls their strings have got an unhealthy grip on this city.

The paper doesn't help the situation by allowing commenter's who have childish squabbles among themselves and who offer no real constructive criticism to the actual story they are commenting on. They are easily recognised by all the readers apart from themselves. An unknown, but likely a high number of people read the articles but avoid the comments section like the plague because the paper, in its wisdom perhaps believes that they contribute to the hits rate to secure more advertisers when in fact it is providing a severe disservice to the people of Plymouth.

That's a sure fire way of putting sensible people off from adding their more valid views because the whole thing has become a circus and has reduced the paper to nothing more than a bad joke instead of a tool to voice the real opinions as "The Voice of Plymouth".

Add the apathy of the 70% of voters who stay at home on polling day, is it really any wonder that those with the power to do so, can just about please themselves without much in the way of any opposition?”

“The Herald has again put personal gain before the city.It seems more and more that SHH has the city council ,planners and even our newspaper onboard. It seems that SHH own more of the city than anyone without a vote by the public .The comments attributed to the city planners show that SHH can have anything they want without a vote or being elected .Something very suspicious is going on here and the more the newspapers write the more suspicious the people will be .Come on herald its about time you spoke for plymouth in an unbiased way and also uphold democrocy. The people of Plymouth deserve accurate answers, before everything they love about Plymouth is destroyed by greed by the few”

I am so tired of the Herald pulling stories about SHH.

I have snipped this as well so have proof that it was posted.

There is something fishy going on here”

“SHH may well be doing good development work in some areas of Plymouth, but sadly that's somewhat offset by the fact they let the airport close, as a city without an airport will tend to put off potential businessmen, investors, yacht and property buyers from coming here if the only way they can do it is by road and rail.
"The most important main street in any community is its airport runway"- longstanding US Airports and Pilots Association maxim.”

“Who needs Leveson when you have the Herald? Voice of Plymouth? Um Maybe Common Purpose that even the Daily Mail agrees...or the Council have shares in SHH or could be SHH have undue influence over the Council in particular the Voters? It really is time the Herald remained impartial and allowed investigative Journalism to flourish...in fact they may actually learn something from some of the threads...We in Plymouth really do need a voice contrary to popular belief and mi*** being peddled by Tudor? A real lesson in History... Remember how the Tudors were the first to peddle the dark arts of underhand communication? It took the puritans under Cromwell (Battle Freedom Park) to dispel the Tudors and restore faith in Democracy by disbanding a dis credible parliament?”
