“Anybody thought that perhaps they have made the website rubbish on purpose to encourage more people to buy the newspaper rather than surf for free!I know that whenever I've had a knock at the door asking me if I buy the Herald to keep up with the local news I've said no because I surf the website.Well,at least I used to!”

“I agree, this is now an awful website, with neither the friendly feel or ease of use of the previous one. Why the need to change it so radically? It now appears to be nothing more than a mass advertising sheet, with news provided as an afterthought. A most definite thumbs down!”

“hi i see things have not changed yet i will give it another week if things are the same then. Then i will no longer use the site this site is a mess, in the old days i would stay on the site for hours looking around most of all uploading my warships now the site has changed i cant even find them anymore. I was one of the lucky ones i had over 35 published, i was well happy now things have gone from bad to worse.”

“I'm giving up even logging in to the website anymore. It's unreadable and, as everyone else seems to agree, why not return it to how it was. Is there anyone that can make any sense of it? One minute you're reading the news, the next there's a comment that doesn't relate to anything and then there's an advert about double glazing! You're not doing yourself or your readers any favours! I suppose we could just buy the papaer instead (maybe that's the plan!)...”

“As the saying goes "If it ain't broken, don't fix it" the old website was very clear and easy to navigate, the new is obviously some generic out of the box pile of poo, that no doubt probably doubles up for similar sites across the country to save a few bob. However now with various fixes and empty promises they will end up spending the same.”

“I think I might take back what I said about this site over the weekend, due to the fact that I have been trying to save articles via the article up-loader, only to keep getting error codes. So I take it that there must be something wrong with the sites software - the site should have been tested for functionality before it was launched!”

“I've gone back to buying the newspaper. much more user friendly. This site is awful, sorry Herald. Please please can we have our old site back... it was almost as good as reading a proper newspaper.... the only problem with that is we can't get out to buy a Herald on a daily basis, but the Internet is always there. Something really must be done, else you are going to lose a lot of followers.
The Daily Mail web site is great, so seeing they are part of the same group, can't you adopt their lay-out if you are going to change the Herald website at all instead of what you've given us now?”

“Well I suppose with site so bad as this one it's one way of trying to push us back into buying the paper version. Or is the paper version going to a weekly like it's counterpart in Torbay?
I just hope for The Heralds sake they didn't pay anyone for this website design.......sorry only joking this site wasn't designed it was just thrown together.
This is the best RUBBISH website I have seen in a long time”

“It really is pure ****. Looks like a child of 4 has designed it with all the pretty colours ... and there is no longer any logic(Not that there was much logic before) to the site.
For a professional Media Company, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Either that or your Websire Designer needs firing.”

“This website is not an improvement. I now cannot book an advert online and it is very difficult to navigate. I phoned and was told to download Firefox in order to book online. I did so and that was a mistake too. I have since uninstalled that as it caused problems with internet.”

“A number of upgrades have now been released - including one that means that when you click 'back' from an article you are returned to your position in the channel, not page one. You can also reorder a channel using the drop-down menu at the top - so you can see articles in date order.”

“A reply from the Web Designer - that's a rarity! Thank goodness for the new option of ordering news stories chronologically. What an improvement - just a shame it's taken 5 weeks! We might actually be able find all the local news now, rather than going round and round in circles on older stories just because someone has commented.
It's still a shame that blogs and photos are still mixed in, but at least you can use the colour coding to dig out the news - a big improvement.”

“As a web designer I have general rule not to be too critical of the work of others, but Neil this site is a visual mess.
Technically, the HTML, JS, and CSS is professional and well written, albeit without copyright, comments in the code, or dynamic text wrapping (hint: look at Andy Clarke's 320 project at StuffAndNonsense.co.uk), but the look and feel is wholly confusing at best.
There's no point of focus, too many random coloured sidebars, difficult navigation, and a host of other aesthetic misjudgments.
In short, keep the code and get a proper graphic web designer.”

“guyoverthere - to be fair to Neil, this is global 'This is' makeover. Take a look at all the this is sites (cornwall, Nottingham, Bristol to name just 3 of 26). It doesn't make it any better, but pointing the finger at one person is not correct. My gripe was the fact he hasn't really repied to any of the criticism.”

“its a horrible design, whos your web master a 12 year old? I agree with one of the comments below for a professional website from a well known newspaper this is shocking, you have personal ads on the front page, letters to the editor posing as headlines, real stories buried underneath the former 2. its all over the place.
do yourself a favour guys get someone who knows what they are doing to do your design work in future.
Did make me laugh last week however when a letter from a reader whining about his wife not getting a refund on a beauty treatment was coming up in the position where youd expect the headlning news story of the day to be........laughable.”

“nice to see my comment deleted, is herald against free speech now as well as good web design? lol, my advice guys go back to the old design there was nothing wrong with it at all I dont know why it needed to be changed, at least with the old layout we had actual news headlines on the front page rather then letters to the editor lol”

“I used to use this page for uploading photos onto iherald when I lived in Plymouth just over a year ago, am very disappointed with the new layout. I have noticed that there aren't as many users on the photos page and I can only assume it is because of the changes. Very sad as this used to be a fab site.”

“Ems - I knew there would be plenty of people like you out there. The speed of iHerald's demise meant that not everyone got the message that it was being replaced by this inferior product. The users of iHerald live on, but because of the downgrade to this site, most of us moved over to Flickr. Please come and join us. http://tinyurl.com/3kmd6yt”
“This has got to be the worst web site ever created, it's totally user unfriendly. When reading a story on page 4, click on the back button and it takes you straight back to page 1. Please, please, please do something about it.”
