“I remember when Whizzer and Chips comic merged with Whoopee comic to become Whoopee featuring Whizzer and Chips. They said all my favourite Whizzer characters would still feature in the new combined comic but it was only a matter of weeks before they started disappearing bit by bit and the comic just called itself Whoopee again. Things like that scar a kid for life. Let's hope the same thing doesn't happen in the case of the Peninsular Medical School. It's a big world out there and there is a place for all of us.”

“Has anyone ever questioned what inteligence is required of Cllrs who handle large amount of tax payers money on ventures requiring an expertise well beyond the remit of most local Cllrs. Have they any business acumen at all. Are they vetted beforehand to ascertain whether there is a grain of intelligence available? And who would vet them? anyone special with the knowledge of what a Cllrs responsibilities are all about/ Its one of the few occupations were no one seems to care whether we are represented by a certain intelligence, monkees or loonies. Most never canvas the electorate. ask yourself why? Or asked whether they have any qualifications worth having. It might be thought democratic that without fear or favour anyone can stand. But in the last analysis Its just a stupid set up and serves no one.”
“If ever you needed proof that Plymouth needs to 'up its game' read this...
At a meeting today in Exeter for South West business and academic professionals, it was discussed that Peninsula Medical School will split and become Exeter University Medical School and University of Plymouth Medical School. It was suggested that within two years Plymouth Medical School will cease to exist. The reasons given were:
1. Exeter University has the academic 'kudos' where as Plymouth is still largely regarded as an ex-Poly. The region cannot afford two medical schools, therefore Exeter will win simply on its academic standing.
2. The professional people required to run a medical school would prefer living in Exeter than Plymouth (this was the result of a survey).
3. Transport links IN PARTICULAR AN AIRPORT, are essential for a world class medical facility.
This was discussed freely and the feeling in the room was that most agreed with the speaker.
Viv and Tudor should hang there heads in shame. While they pay for football grounds (Viv) and focus on Dog Mess (Tudor) the other south west cities address what really matters. This is not a story about a medical school, it is how the rest of the world sees Plymouth. I love this city and left that meeting angry for I know it is not what (most) Plymouth people deserve.”
