We don't need yet another superstore
WHAT madness is this? The last thing we need is another superstore at Plympton.
Almost opposite the proposed site is the Co-op with petrol station, down the road is Sainsbury's, one block up is Tesco at St Mary's, with a smaller one in Glen Road. On the Ridgeway is the main Co-op with another at Chaddlewood and this is not including the smaller shops selling food.
How many wage packets do these people think households have?
I presume this bid is because Morrisons have lost their case to expand at Outland Road where residents have had enough.

The proposed Plympton site is already a nightmare for traffic and access. I presume the store has offered acceptable benefits. Didn't Sainsbury's have to offer to build a bridge or something to get their site? If we have to have a store, why not Lidl?

“What Plymouth needs an Ikea shop. I say this because only Ikea or John Lewis will halt Plymouths retail decline. It is quite obvious that John Lewis will not come here, which opnly leaves Ikea. This is the only way people will return to shop here. Otherwise Plymouth retail life will rapidly go down hill over the next ten years.”

“So you don't want more choice, more jobs and probably save some money? Alright for some. I would welcome another supermarket, anywhere, if it means more choice, more jobs and spending a little less thank you very much.”

“I for one think we do need another superstore!!!! By having competition between supermarket companies means better deals for the customer and more money in my back pocket!!!
As already mentioned the supermarket would create construction jobs benefiting the local companies in that trade, the supply trade would also benefit from orders for parts, not to mention the jobs that will be created by the new store. If Morrison's didnt think it was going to work, they wouldn't contemplate building one!
I think it is a case of NIMBYism, however I would rather see a new superstore that is utilised than looking at down at the heal empty warehouses. One final note it would be better if we could attract bigger retailers such as Ikea here.”

“It's not just here the whole country does not need another supermarket. They are taking over and not in a good way. They engage in unfair, but legal, trading practices to force out local competition. The local councils provide an uneven playing field by increasing parking charges in the town centres, giving planning permission to the supermarkets with free parking, and then wonder why the town centres are dying. A 10 year old could have told them. It would make sense when granting planning permission to a supermarket to charge them the estimated income from the towns car parks and make parking in towns free. That would level out the playing field a bit.”

“I do hope those objecting to the stores preasance will NOT under any circumstance be using the store if built, all those levels jobs that will be created by its construction the economical boost generated by is operation, but then I guess you see the current empty shells more use than a morrisons”

“My wife brought back a pic of the new layout from the public consultation at Plympton library. I have to say the plans look good. Traffic flow will be unimpeded, car park for 300 cars, another petrol station and easy access. I see no down side to the plan.
It's a pity they didn't get to own the old bowling alley as well and make the development bigger but you can't have everything. Apparently, the old bowling alley is designated as a leisure site and can't be changed.”

“Bring it on, I hate mad silly rip off prices at Tesco Lee Mill. 'Now super price wine, was £13.99, now £2.99! Etc etc I get sick of it. We need more competition. Morrisons, lidls, Aldis, yes please! And get rid of the Coop at Ivybridge, another waste of space. Individuals in positions of authority somewhere are getting a lot of back handlers from these big store names. We need an investigation.”

“What difference does it make now? IT does seem a shame though that these supermarkets get all the glory and have unlimited funding it seems. if only the banks were as generous to private businesses as they are to supermarkets. It seems funny how these supermarket can throw un used food away in bins yet refuse to give it away for free but must always put a pricetag of even 1p. THey just don't like freedom. Its sick what they do.”
