What experience do they have of police?
WITH regard to the item in The Herald on Saturday, October 20. The electorate of Devon and Cornwall now have the list of candidates who wish to stand for the post of Elected Police Commissioner for Devon and Cornwall.
What a choice we have been presented with, one Plymouth city councillor, two farmers, one solicitor, two ex-Devon county councillors, one retired Naval officer, one publican, one unknown and finally one retired police officer.
The question I would like to pose to the candidates, apart from the ex-police officer, is have you ever been a serving police officer, not a civilian employed by a police authority or sitting on police committees as politicians?
The answer is very simple: it is either a yes or a no.

The electorate deserve to know the answer to this basic question and I will take that no response to this very simple question is a no.
I'm sure that the Chief Constable for Devon and Cornwall is hoping for a certain result and doesn't want to house train a novice into the running of a police authority.
