Fine and Dandy at Lanhydrock
13:48 - 11-July-2008
With indie rock, classic pop, African blues/fusion, soul/funk and big band jazz, there really is something for everyone with a wide-ranging taste in music.
A big draw will be The Dandy Warhols, an accessible indie rock ensemble from the US west coast and now festy faves around the world.
Listen up for top twenty UK hits Not If You Were The Last Junkie on Earth and We Used to Be Friends, and especially the swaggeringly Jaggeresque Bohemian Like You, which not only dented the top five, but achieved even wider appeal in a certain major phone ad campaign.
Also topping the bill come stalwarts of the '60s and '70s The Hollies, who not only achieved more hits than the Beatles in those two decades, but have continued to remain an item for the following three. With such an extensive and well-known back catalogue to choose from, there'll be a plethora of tunes to sing along to, including big ones like I'm Alive and He Ain't Heavy.
By complete contrast, Justin Adams, guitarist and co-writer with Robert Plant's band, plus Gambian ritti player Juldeh Camara, will be performing a rousing set of African blues fusion.
Plymouth's own soul/party band Joey The Lips will bring a party atmosphere to the proceedings early on with their horn-fuelled selection of classics from the likes of Otis, Aretha and The Blues Brothers.
Cornwall's answer to Kate Bush, Rosie Vanier, fronts the upwardly mobile three piece Rosie and the Goldbug, who are surely destined for great things, while show openers Bodmin College Jazz Band will kick off the event in style with a bunch of big band numbers.
Brian Muelaner, National Trust Event Organiser says: “We are thrilled to be able to present both great international and local bands on the stage this year – those who have reigned supreme and those on the cusp of something great. The audience will be taken on a musical tour for over nine hours – it's going to be fantastic.”
