Monday, September 01, 2008, 16:38

OPERA fans won't have to travel to London for the opening night of the Royal Opera House's 2008/2009 season because the Vue Cinema in Plymouth will be screening the production live from Covent Garden.

It's the first live opera presentation from Vue Entertainment, and the Barbican Leisure Park venue is one of 25 Vue cinemas in the UK to screen Don Giovanni live next Monday, September 8, at 6.45pm.

First produced by Francesca Zambello in 2002 this flamboyant and fiery performance of Mozart's Don Giovanni hosts an all-star cast led by Simon Keenlyside, Marina Poplavskaya, Joyce DiDonato and Ramón Vargas and conducted by Charles Mackerras.

Vue Entertainment has joined forces with the Royal Opera House, Opus Arte, and Arts Alliance Media to screen world-renowned operas.

In addition to the actual opera performance, customers will be able to enjoy introductions and behind the scenes footage, helping them to get up close to the performers, see the spectacular costumes, sets and scenery, and to have a unique insight into the elements that make a world class opera performance.

The Royal Opera House is widely regarded as part of London's cultural heartland and has been home to many famous composers, conductors and virtuoso singers. Vue audiences will be able to see the performances in the latest High Definition Digital technology with Dolby Surround Sound.

Tickets for Don Giovanni can be purchased at www.myvue.com by calling 08712 240 240, or direct from the cinema.
