Singers return to B Bar

Friday, November 06, 2009, 07:19

TWO singer/songwriters who have strong links with Plymouth return for a homecoming gig at the B Bar tonight.

Jamie Lawson, pictured, was born and raised in the city in what he describes as a "non-musical household", though all that changed when his brother introduced him to The Smiths and The Housemartins.

Jamie started performing in earnest, having dropped out of art college in London, and was soon supporting artists like Damien Rice, Martha Wainwright and The Frames; he has opened outdoor shows for Van Morrison and Katie Melua; and performed support for Kasabian at the Eden Project last year.

With one beautiful album, Last Night Stars, already under his belt, he is currently putting finishing touches to the follow-up.

Best known in the city as main man behind top acoustic trio Largeman, Simon Allen comes from Northern Ireland, but spent much of the Nineties living in the city.

Now a resident of Bristol, he has taken time out to start a family, but recently returned to stage and studio with renewed fire in his belly.

He too is currently rounding off an album, his first solo effort, which includes input from The String Beans Quartet and a variety of musical chums including Jamie.

Entry to the show is £3 on the door.
