It was the right decision and after all, that's what the record button is for!
With the title of the show 'Here Come the Girls' you would expect three divas from different eras to deliver a hand-clapping, dancing-in-the-aisles night of classics… and that is exactly what they did.
The audience was up for it even before the ladies came out on stage with a group of hat-wearing girls starting off the evening by performing YMCA to the warm-up music!
The three divas belted out a string of favourites including Signed Sealed Delivered, I'm a Soul Man, I'm Every Woman, Lady Marmalade and disco classics such as Burn Baby Burn which had the audience (which covered a broad spectrum of ages and included a fair handful of men) standing and clapping from the off.
Lulu's soulful Scottish tones haven't changed much over the years and the tiny star held her own next to the powerful voice of Anastacia. I was really pleased, as I'm sure everyone in the audience was, to hear the Anastacia hit Left Outside Alone and Lulu followed that up with Shout. They were both absolutely fantastic.
The only thing missing was a live band – the girls performed to backing tracks.
Lulu and Anastacia seemed to have formed a real bond and it showed on stage with all three chatting to the audience regularly with the obligatory mimicking of the West Country accent (does the rest of the country really think we are all country bumpkins?!).
Six dancers full of energy and sexy moves filled time when the ladies obviously needed a break and the interludes were all filled with references to Michael Jackson, Madonna and Lady Gaga.
One of my favourite moments of the evening was the divas' take on Robbie William's Angels. I actually thought the soulful rendition was better than Robbie's original.
A great feelgood evening and definitely worth missing the X Factor final for!
