World pays tribute to Casper the cat

TRIBUTES flooded in from cat lovers all over the world following the news that Plymouth's famous Plymouth feline had been killed by a hit-and-run driver.

Casper, pictured left, achieved worldwide fame when The Herald revealed he was a regular commuter on First's Number 3 bus between Barne Barton and Royal Parade.

But the city's celebrity cat lost his life last Thursday after being struck by a taxi as he crossed the road outside his Poole Park Road home.

The news of his death triggered a barrage of tributes on The Herald's website from fans living in all corners of the globe – and hit the headlines as far afield as Canada.

Jelle, from Holland, wrote: "Casper was a special cat and he had a wonderful life. He will be missed in the Netherlands too."

Connie, from Glasgow, said: "I never met Casper, but it was so fun to read about his exploits. I can't believe that the person who ran him over could just go on."

Ed Tracey, from New Hampshire in the USA, added: "Learning of his escapades last year brought a much-needed smile to me. Casper, I'm certain that you already know the bus schedules at the Rainbow Bridge!"

Dozens joined Coral, from Australia, in sending their condolences to devastated owner Sue Finden and Casper's fellow commuters on the number 3.

"I thank those thoughtful people," Sue said. "They did touch our hearts. I miss him so much already."
