Young golden oldies wanted

Sunday, November 29, 2009, 20:39

THE old tunes are the best – but tribute promoter Paul Le'Vis needs the young ones to sing them.

Paul, pictured, wants to put together a touring rock'n'roll show featuring Fifties and Sixties icons in their prime.

But his search for Elvis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash has left him all shook up.

"There are lots of Las Vegas-era Elvises and old Johnny Cashes," says Paul.

"I can't find anybody who does tributes to them when they were young."

He says he just can't help believing that fresh talent is out there, though his suspicion is that the current generation seeks instant success.

"Too many people want it easy," adds Paul. "They see The X Factor and they don't want to work for it. They want success overnight."

Paul, who performs as Roy Orbison and Elvis, says encouraging new talent is always on his mind. "I tutor singers and I'm willing to take the time to teach them so we can have a show touring the South West next summer," he says. "Ideally they should be aged under 30."

Paul has sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the Parkway Sports Pub, Ernesettle.
