A star turn at Moonlight walk

Monday, November 09, 2009, 15:09

SINGER Jessica Sweetman (above) is going on the road with a moonlight date lined up.

She is performing on the Moonlight Memory Walk in Falmouth on Saturday night.

The singer-songwriter will be singing Angel Mine on the five-mile event, which is in aid of Children's Hospice South West.

That tune was chosen for a TV advert for a mobile phone company in Slovenia, which earned her new fans in the former Yugoslavia republic and brought her nationwide publicity in the UK.

Jessica, who works in Plymouth and lives in Seaton, south-east Cornwall, has another possible route to fame.

The cosmetic sales assistant auditioned for the Retail Trust Search For a Star last month and will hear next week if she will go through to the next round of the national talent competition.

Jessica began performing as a Norah Jones tribute and her voice and style have been compared with the jazz favourite.

But more recently she has broadened her act to include country and pop in the style of Katie Melua, Eva Cassidy and KT Tunstall, along with some of her own tunes and others co-written with her musician father.

Although she has now started working with a band, she will still also be doing local gigs as a solo singer.

You can hear Jessica's music on her website, www.jessicasweetman.com.
