Tavistock are overtaken by Bodmin after defeat
TAVISTOCK surrendered top spot to Bodmin after this Premier Division defeat by the reigning champions at a windswept Langsford Park.
The Lambs had the wind at their backs in the first half but missed several chances with Adam Carter the chief culprit before they found themselves a goal down on 41 minutes.
Sam Matthews followed up on Chris Luxton's shot to score and it was the former Parkway winger who notched his second of the game on 56 minutes, to complete the night's scoring.
Torpoint Athletic...1 Ivybridge Town...3
IVYBRIDGE appear to have an 'Indian Sign' over the Tamarsiders this season as this was their third victory over Stuart Dudley's side.
The Bridgers arrived at The Mill minus five of their first team squad and aware that their opponents were looking to move to the top of the table should they win the game.
The visitors, with a strong wind at their backs, took most of the first half honours but could only score once, courtesy of Gavin Cockman's clinical 29th minute finish.
Torpoint were enjoying most of the second half possession, but Ivybridge were always looking dangerous on the break and that proved to be Torpoint's undoing as their opponents hit them twice, in as many minutes, to take the points.
Joe Truelove's clinical 76th minute finish made it 2-0, but his second of the game was by far the best as he lifted the ball over goalkeeper Martin Piper, with the outside of his right boot, and just under the crossbar from the edge of the area.
Danny Brook pulled a goal back, with a 30 yard free-kick, but it proved to be no more than a consolation for the home side.
Bristol Manor Farm....2 Saltash United...1
THE Ashes' dreams of continuing their run in the FA Vase ended with a second round defeat away to their Western League Premier opponents.
Goals from Luke Clarke and Scott Feltham gave Farm at two-goal advantage before substitute Glen Palmer pulled a goal back with virtually his first touch of the game.
Saltash piled forward in the final 10 minutes, but the home side held onto their narrow lead.
DEVON WEDNESDAY LEAGUE
CITY College Plymouth's striker Ross Coombes had a day to remember by scoring all his side's goals in a 4-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle Development (B) at Brickfields in Division One.
After an even opening half hour, Coombes got his first with a blistering 30 yards strike.
Although City College enjoyed the better of the possession in the second half, Argyle were looking dangerous on the break but with Gary Mann resolute at the heart of the defence, City College coped well with Argyle's lively twin strike force.
On 80 minutes, Mark Channing sent Coombes through to make it 2-0 with a 25 yards speculative shot that found the top corner.
Victory was sealed two minutes from time when Coombes completed his hat-trick by robbing his marker to run on and delightfully chip over the advancing Argyle 'keeper.
Coombes' perfect day was completed with a well-executed goal when he chased down a long ball from Joe Dunn to cheekily chip the ball over a central defender before crashing in a superb volley for his fourth to send City College top of the table.
Meanwhile, Argyle's A team came narrowly close to taking over the leadership of the Premier Division when they were leading HM Naval Base 1-0 at HMS Drake with just one minute left on the clock.
But they were denied victory when Base skipper Andy Lough smashed home a shot from an acute angle to earn his side a 1-1 draw.
Argyle had gone in front five minutes from time when Tom King ran in behind the defence to score with a diving header.
HMS Raleigh progressed to the semi-final stage of the George Lang Cup with a fine 5-1 defeat of Team Taxifast after leading 2-0 at half-time.
In heavy conditions play was even for 30 minutes before Thorpe cracked in two goals to give Raleigh their half time lead.
Five minutes into the second half Bell got Raleigh's third then got a second to put his time well in control.
After Martin Pollard, who was chief organiser of a stout Raleigh defence, went off, Taxifast took advantage to pull one back through Paul McAdam.
But any hope of a fight back was quickly extinguished when Forrest popped up to grab Raleigh's fifth.
In the Jack Finch Division One Cup, Plymouth Dukes (B) went through to the second round with a 3-2 victory over Devonport High Boys (B).
Nathan Ball and Alec Otaka gave Dukes a 2-0 half-time lead before Clark reduced the arrears.
Dukes came again and regained their two-goal advantage through Anton Coombes but a spirited Devonport were not quite finished and they deservedly narrowed the gap to one with a second goal.
St Boniface College came away from Roborough with an excellent 4-1 defeat of Star Cars, who just cannot seem to produce a victory on their home soil.
Nick Cotton (2), Kyle Peacok and Josh Outtram scored for the Saints with Lee Strickland replying with one of his speciality 20 yards free kick's that soared into the top corner.
