PLYMOUTH Devils take on Scunthorpe Saints at the St Boniface Arena tonight looking for their third successive National League victory (7.30pm).

Consecutive home wins over King's Lynn (57-37) and Buxton (55-38) have propelled Mike Bowden's side up the table to fourth.

Another win tonight over Scunthorpe would take Devils into second position and boost their hopes of reaching the championship play-offs.

"Last week's victory over Buxton was a very good one, the scoreline didn't reflect just how much we dominated," said Devils chairman Bowden.

"I fully expect Scunthorpe to come along tonight and give it everything they have got.

"But the way the boys have been riding, I can't see anything other than a Plymouth win."

Last week's triumph over Buxton was the first occasion this season that Matt Bates, promoted from reserve, rode at number two.

David Gough, who rode at reserve, moved down from the number two spot.

In their new roles, Bates scored four points (plus one bonus) from four rides, while Gough contributed five points (plus one bonus) from six outings.

Bowden was pleased with the efforts of both riders and is hoping for more of the same tonight.

"Goughy did really well – he scored five points for the team and he was pushing hard throughout," said Bowden.

"Matt had a problem in his second heat when his ignition box went flat. But he changed it and then went on to get a good couple of second place finishes.

"I am hoping both of them can pick up where they left off last week and do another good job for the team tonight."

Added interest to tonight's meting comes in the shape of Josh Dingle and Ashley Morris.

The two reserves – Plymouth's Dingle and Scunthorpe's Morris – are currently doing battle for the lead in the British Under-15s Championship.

Tonight, the two number sevens are due to race against each other three times – in heats two, four and eight.

"Plymouth versus Scunthorpe matches are always keenly contested and always great entertainment," said Bowden.

"But with Josh and Ashley up against each other, it does add spice to tonight's meeting.

"I am sure Josh will be fine and pick up points for the team."

Scunthorpe include former Devil Rob Smith at number one.

He is guesting for Simon Lambert who will be racing for Scunthorpe's Premier League side against Workington.

Providing the main back-up for the visitors will be South African Byron Bekker and 20-year-old Scott Richardson.

Completing the side will be John MacPhail, 17-year-old Adam Wrathall and Kyle Howarth, 15.

Admission for tonight's meeting is £9 adults, £5 children aged eight to 16, and £6 OAPs aged 65 and over.

Children aged under eight are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

A family ticket, which admits two adults and two children, costs £23. Programmes are priced £2 each.

Plymouth Devils: Mark Simmonds, Matt Bates, Kyle Hughes, Paul Starke, Seemond Stephens (capt), David Gough, Josh Dingle.

Scunthorpe Saints: Rob Smith, Adam Wrathall, Kyle Howarth, Byron Bekker (capt), Scott Richardson, John MacPhail, Ashley Morris.

Three Devils riders, Kyle Hughes, Paul Starke and Matt Bates, have been selected to represent Great Britain's Under-21s in their forthcoming five Test series against their Australasia counterparts.

Hughes and Starke will compete in the second Test at King's Lynn on Saturday, July 11.

Bates is in action in the third Test on the Isle of Wight on Tuesday, July 14.

Then, all three riders will ride at the St Boniface Arena when Plymouth hosts the fourth Test on Friday, July 17 (7.30pm).

"All three riders have been in good form this season and their call-ups to the Great Britain squad are fully deserved," said Devils chairman Mike Bowden.

"I am sure each of them will do a great job for the team."
