More funding is available for Plymouth World War Two veterans wanting to make a second commemorative visit to the battlefields
VETERANS of World War Two are being encouraged to apply for lottery funding to enable them to make a second commemorative visit to the place where they fought or served.
The Big Lottery Fund is offering to financially support the survivors in making a return – whether it's to the beaches of Dunkirk, the battlefields of France or even the fighting grounds in the Far East.
Crownhill veteran Garth Wright, is among those intending to apply. The 93-year-old guarded the beaches of Dunkirk before moving to Italy where he later witnessed the horrific Allied losses in Monte Cassino.
"The grant is the only chance people like myself, with limited finances, have in ever hoping to return," he said.
