First look at new Morrisons superstore plan for Plympton
THIS is how a new Morrisons supermarket could look if permission is given for the chain to build it on the site of a retail park in Plympton.
The company wants to redevelop the Errill Retail Park, in Plymouth Road, and construct a large superstore creating 250 jobs.
It would mean knocking down the Buyology, Homemaker and Allied Carpets units to make way for a 57,737sqft supermarket, with a car park and filling station added too. The site is next door to, but does not include, the former Plympton Megabowl building.
Morrisons, which said the proposal would represent "a significant investment", has lodged a planning application with Plymouth City Council.

The company's design statement said: "A total of 250 full- and part-time employment opportunities will arise for the store's operation with a range of skill sets required from professional roles and managers to administrative staff, catering staff, retail staff, warehouse operatives, cleaners and maintenance staff and security personnel."

“I really want to see a Morrisons on the site as I'm local and think they are a good supermarket but I think it will cause traffic chaos no matter what they do with the roads. Traffic on an average saturday morning from Marsh Mills to The Ridgeway is almost at a standstill already. Add the Morrisons and it will be gridlock.”

“jabbathebutt - They said the same thing about the Morrisons at Plymstock and it didn't happen. As for eating horsemeat? I'm afraid I don't buy convenience food so no threat there.”

“The old bowling alley isn't owned by Morrisons, more's the pity. Otherwise, it could have been a better development. I, for one, look forward to the new supermarket.
@jabbathebutt - Thought was given to the road layout and traffic lights were included in the design along with a redesign of the routes in and out. The council seemed happy with those proposals.
And another petrol station to provide competitive prices, to boot.
If it's anything like the Plymstock Morrisons, it'll be a quality outlet.”

“No thought at all for the already congested roads in that area that one supermarket causes and is now going to get even worse ? .”

“So what do they propose to do with the old bowling alley which is the blot on the landscape at the moment ?,I would assume that the Cott Hill entrance will be used as an entrance for customers or deliveries to the store, and who would want that building in those circumstances?”
