Dc Mike Lugger said: "A female was threatened by a male with what we believe was an eight-inch carving knife.

"He subsequently stole a large amount of cash and left."

Lead investigator Detective Constable Sarah Rawlinson, of Devonport CID, added: "We are looking for any witnesses who may have seen a male wearing a dark hooded top and possibly camouflage trousers around the Stuart Road area or the Pennycomequick roundabout at around 9.45pm.

"This is a knife point robbery where a knife was used not to cause injury but to threaten the member of staff. "A quantity of money was stolen from the premises. "This is a serious offence and we would appeal to anybody who may know something or has been told anything to get in touch with us." She appealed for anyone with information about the robbery to contact police on 101 quoting crime reference number ED125454.

Police are now making enquiries concerning possible CCTV footage. The victim was said to be safe and well.

“I think we are going to hear of a lot more about things like this, because of the cut in police numbers, and unaffordable prices of everything. It's a concoction for trouble.”

“I can't believe that at that time there were no witnesses. Somebody needs to come forward and get this misfit locked up before he kills someone.”
