Well-known Plymouth pub fined for dodging TV licence
A WELL known city pub has been fined for operating without a TV Licence.
The Clipper Inn on Union Street – which boasts showing live football on Sky Sports – was ordered to pay up a total of £695 by magistrates.

The boss of the pub, Tam McPherson, ran for Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon and Cornwall last year.
But the pub he runs was found to be the on the wrong side of the law when TV licensing investigators visited The Clipper, owned by Sydnham Taverns Ltd. The company has been ordered to pay a £500 fine for the offence, as well as £180 costs and a £15 victim surcharge at the hearing at South West Devon Magistrates Court on February 6.

Any business that shows television programmes as they're being shown on TV, whether for customers' use or in staff areas, must be covered by a valid TV Licence.
The Clipper Inn could face a second prosecution if they do not now buy a TV Licence.
Warren Carr, TV Licensing spokesman for the Wales and South West, said: "We appreciate these are tough times for businesses, but to be fair to the majority who do pay the licence fee, we have to take action against those who watch TV illegally.
"We'd rather businesses think ahead and check if they need a licence than risk being prosecuted.
"A licence costs £145.50 and can be bought in minutes online."

I watch my TV through cable and not through my airel.
I pay 'x' amount p/m to watch the channels as the BBC channels are offered in the package. Yet i still have to pay a licence fee to watch them through my cable deal! basically twice charged!”
