Why I'm backing the City of Culture bid: Tudor Evans
BIDDING to become UK City of Culture 2017 really is a no-brainer. We have an ambitious vision for Plymouth and this is exactly the sort of race we should be running in.
Yes, we're facing a really tough economic climate, but we must embrace opportunities that will support our priorities; creating jobs for people, driving economic activity and raising the city's profile.

Why I'm backing the City of Culture bid: Tudor Evans
The City of Culture bid will do just that. We've seen the economic boost that bidding in similar competitions has given other cities around the country, now it's our turn for a piece of that action.
We'd expect to see benefits in the build up to 2017, during the year and then a lasting legacy of a stronger creative industries sector, inward investment, tourism, employment, and of course job creation.

The bidding process itself will inspire our communities and is already uniting the city as we call on everyone to 'back the bid'. New partnerships are being created as we all pull together with a common goal.
I'm proud to be the council leader in this city of ours and I want to shout about how great Plymouth is to the rest of the UK and the world.
I'm backing the bid for Plymouth to become UK City of Culture 2017 because there will be enormous benefits for the city, for its residents who live here and those who do business here.

“@newplymouth
Our drunks are better than Southend's - and they are more productive vomit-wise.”

“I think the people of Plymouth are rightly cynical about all this stuff.
Remember the bid for the World Cup and the jolly for several of the Councillors to South Africa with public money, what jollies and trips will this entail one wonders?
Top tip fix up the Hoe.”

“City of Culture bid Mr.Tudor Evans ?
Well I will try my best to keep one of your most important icons of Plymouth culture intact here in Birkenhead until then !
I am of course referring to HMS Plymouth.
She was present at capital of culture for Glasgow and for Liverpool but never Plymouth !
2017 is a long enough time span to get her back and put her in her rightful place.
Portsmouth has HMS Victory. Plymouth could have HMS Plymouth
A symbol of Plymouth culture and heritage.

“@Newplymouth
May I ask you to find a dfferent description of us other than 'whingers and wisecrackers' please?
You use it in many, many of your posts and it must surely be time for a change?!
@plymfox1
Great link to pic/article, I love the comment he made about the smell of mud and fish.”

“If you look at the Leicester Mercury website (http://tinyurl.com/rwlxd) you will see the smirking face of the city's mayor Sir Peter Soulsby. He like Tudor Evans is in the paper every day.”

“Time for Plymouth to get behind the Bid wholeheartedly IMHO
Whingeing and Wisecracking together with political sniping won't play well to those making the final decision.
Talk of drunks in the streets in Plymouth can be read in Southend and elsewhere and used by our competitor Cities to diminsh our chances and this has already happened
The bid is good for Plymouth as Tudor Evans says and can bring much needed new money into th City we should not let any feelings of cultural inadequacy get the better of us and dare I say it be Positive about Plymouth!”
