'Why I'm backing Plymouth's City of Culture bid' - John Chapman
Plymouth is bidding to be named UK City of Culture 2017. We are asking the people of the city to speak up to support the move. Today John Chapman, senior partner with Wolferstans Solicitors, lends his support to the campaign.
Everyone in the city really needs to show their support for the bid. If we can demonstrate we want it most and more than any of the ten other competing cities we will win. We deserve to win it. I think we have more to offer and more to gain.

Anyone who lives and works here knows there is something very special about the place. Wolferstans has just completed 200 years in business here. Its extraordinary natural environment and unique maritime heritage are remarkable.
And yet the city lacks money and confidence and is still battling to overcome years of deprivation. Regenerating parts of the city and attracting new investment to provide jobs and prosperity is crucial to making people's lives better.

“Like I said the other day, a Scottish city will win! If not, surely Chester has more to offer culturally than Plymouth!!”

“You would like us to speek up?
ok.
First stop wasting cash on foolish ideas like Ocean city, Get pengely out of the mayors chair, stop building incinerator's, OPEN the airport so we can get business down in Plymouth again, sort the railway out and sort a motorway out. While your at it sort our roads out.
THEN
It would be nice to have the title city of culture.”

“Looking at social media all i can find is the same theme i.e. This bid is yet another excuse for all the croonies of Plymouths' ruling political elite to line their own pockets disguised yet again with the pretence of helping this poor city. Anyway nice free advert for Wolferstans.”

“If people choose to look around on social media within the city there is a quiet revolution going on at the grassroots around the bid process. The desire to co-operate and collaborate is winning through.”
