PUPILS have started the new school term with a celebration after winning a national competition.

Representatives from The Co-operative's Green Schools Revolution team have visited the students to present them with a commemorative plaque and prize money.

Lipson Community College beat off competition from hundreds of schools across the UK to take the top prize of £3,000 for their green activities.

Marlborough Primary School scooped a runners-up prize of £1,000 in recognition of all the environmental work going on inside and outside of the classroom.

Chris Ryall, competition judge and an elected member for The Co-operative, said: "Congratulations to all the pupils and teachers."

Lipson Community College will spend the prize money on stepping up recycling in the school, while Marlborough Primary School plans to put the prize money towards a composter that would dramatically reduce food waste.
