Bothma, of Finch Close, Laira, and Geoghean, of no fixed address, were told the case would to go straight to Plymouth Crown Court. No pleas were indicated.

Both men were remanded in custody and magistrates adjourned the case to Plymouth Crown Court until September 24.

A second hearing was set for the senior court on December 17.

Police said at the time that two members of staff were threatened in Clifton Stores at 9pm on Sunday.

Detectives also revealed the victim of the alleged Quay News robbery was 19 years old.
