A BABY alpaca born at Woodlands Leisure Park has been given the nickname Marshmallow - but visitors are being asked to come up with a permanent name.

This baby was born at the theme park near Totnes on March 2.

Beth Lewis, animal keeper, who was with mum Rose when the new alpaca was born said: “I couldn’t resist given the new arrival a nickname and have called him Marshmallow because he’s so sweet and fluffy.

"Mum did a fantastic job, he is an adorable little boy and is having a great time with all this nice weather we’ve been having."

Marshmallow now lives with a herd of five other alpacas, two males and three females at Woodlands Zoo-Farm where guests will be able to enter a competition to choose a new name for Marshmallow.

“All of the Alpacas are looking after Marshmallow, they are herding animals and they are very good at protecting each other, they also protect the sheep that share their paddock with them” Beth said.
