Jail for Romanian who did three burglaries in three days
Ovidiu Iacob, aged 24, of Colin Campbell Court, Plymouth, took part in three burglaries in the Yelverton area within the space of three days.
The court heard that between September 12 and 15 last year, Iacob burgled the Chez Vous computer company and stole £5,000 worth of laptops, which have not been recovered.
He also burgled the Forest Inn in Hexworthy, taking a phone and about £200 in cash, and entered a nearby house, where he drank a bottle of gin and stole a pair of binoculars.
Iacob also admitted stealing £46 of cheese from a Co-op store on Southside Street, and a number of joints of beef from Marks and Spencer in Plymouth, in autumn last year.
In April, he was recognised by staff in Marks and Spencer and the police were called, the court heard. When he was searched, police found a lock knife.
Ali Rafiti, representing Iacob, said his client had the knife in his pocket because he had been using it in his work as a barman.
"When released he wants to go back to Romania," Mr Rafiti said. "This experiment has clearly been a disastrous one."
Judge Francis Gilbert sentenced Iacob to a total of 18 months in prison for the offences, including the breach of a previous conditional discharge.
