Man's arms cut; woman held

Tuesday, February 09, 2010, 07:00

A STONEHOUSE man had to be rushed to hospital after both his arms were slashed with a knife, say police.

The 23-year-old needed eight stitches after suffering wounds to both forearms and a thumb in the alleged early-evening attack on Saturday.

With the injured man now recovering at home, police in the area are asking for anybody with information to come forward.

However, they do not believe the alleged attack was random and are keen to reassure the public that the case is being treated as an isolated incident.

A force spokesman said two 999 calls were received just after 5.30pm on Saturday, reporting a potential domestic incident at an address in Flora Court.

The 23-year-old man had been trying to leave a flat when he was slashed across both arms with a knife, emergency services were told.

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene and ambulance staff located the man, who was bleeding from his wounds, a South Western Ambulance Service spokesman said.

He was rushed to A&E at Derriford Hospital, where his injuries were found to be less severe than first feared.

The police said they had made a search of the property in Flora Court and had seized a number of knives.

The alleged victim, who has now left hospital, suffered a one-inch cut on his right forearm which required four stitches.

Two small cuts to his left forearm were patched up by hospital staff without requiring stitches, but a further four stitches were needed to close a one-inch cut to his left thumb.

Anybody with information is being urged to call police on 08452 777444 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111 quoting log number 769 of February 6.

A 43-year-old woman from Octagon Street was arrested at the scene on suspicion of wounding with intent. She was taken to Charles Cross Police Station for questioning before being released on bail until Monday, March 29.
